A novice sketches a master

I haven't sketched since - oh - 1978 (ouch) but am loving the encouragement, fun, and release of creativity provided by my new island sketching mates.  I post the following to show that even a beginner can try her hand at this.
The real Virginia; master at work.

The beginner's Virginia; lots to learn.

I look forward to learning how to add color, perspective, etc. etc. etc. in the months to come.  I've got some talented friends to learn from.  Thanks to my new island sketching buddies.  Next stop, watercolors... and when I really get brave - all those cool crazy pens Kris uses!!

  3. Got my new pens and case yesterday. I had a moment of panic because I couldn't see how to make the brush pens work and I am VERY impatient - all instructions in Japanese. But you can find anything online now so I got them going. So far, I've only used the Pentel Tradio fountain pen and I really AM making better sketches with it. It flows so nicely - I'm making fewer and more elegant lines, less shading and crosshatching.

  4. Cool! Do post! The Tradio got great reviews. There is something to the feel of a good pen.

  5. Now I'm trying out the brush pens. I'm a maniac. Doing 5 second blind contour drawings of a cat that won't hold still.
