Line by Line

Getting Back to the Phantom Skill by James McMullan is the first of a 12 part series on drawing by this renown illustrator and teacher. My hero when I was a student and my reason for picking up watercolors way back in the 80s. I'm looking forward to reading and applying his teachings. Hope you find some nuggets of inspiration!

  1. Wow, I am so excited about this. I just read the following sentence, which so precisely expresses the thrill I get from drawing: "It is the activity that most engages an artist’s sense of exploration, both visually, as the artist feels out the image, new born, on the drawing surface, and intellectually, as the drawing becomes the bridge between observation or an idea and a graphic fact." Thanks for sharing this!

  2. P.S. I keep thinking we should spice up the blog with something to inspire growth and challenge our skills. This is a great beginning.

  3. Agreed. Lots of options... exercises in perception, subjects and media, artist interviews, articles. This could be a very rich site.
