Friday at The Freeland Library

So many people and interesting things to sketch. I chose just two in the short 2 hours I was there today.

Anacortes Old Building

What a great day with the sketchers from Anacortes. They were friendly, interesting, fun companions while showing off their town. This sketch is the third floor of a beautiful old 1910 building where we spent several hours.

Red Rooster Antique Mall

One of the many fascinating rooms awaiting our pencils and brushes at The Red Rooster Antique Mall. This was definitely a place to return to.

Christmas Cards from our Secret Buddies

In December, Faye entertained the Whidbey Island Sketchers in her lovely home where we did lots of indoor sketching in her house. We also had a great time sharing our sketches, enjoying our fellow sketchers and sharing experiences and stories with each other along with munching on goodies and sipping wine. Lisbeth distributed watercolor postcards to each of us with a great idea to sketch a Christmas scene on the card and then send it to our secret Christmas buddy. So...the following are some of those sketches that we would like to share with everyone to show the fun of this project.

This Christmas scene drawn on the card by Gene Berg is so delightful. The line sketch is simple and wonderful showing the yellow warm light in the house in contrast to the cold outdoor snow on the ground.

Julie Pittis did this wonderful two color sketch and sent it to Diana Carter showing Art books that we all love to browse. Great crisp composition.










 Faye Castle used a wide selection of colors from her palette to sketch this cheerful winter scene of the mountains seen from Whidbey Island. Lisbeth Cort was the lucky Christmas buddy.





Natalie Olsen sent this lovely card to me and knowing that I enjoy spinning yarn from wool and alpaca fleece. I love these little sheep with their woolly coats and black faces and skinny legs. It's a keeper!

Jay Hudemann used colored pencils to draw Christmas cookies for Sue.












Cathy Hess sent this greeting to Sherryl from her tropical winter paradise in Hawaii.

And Lisbeth sketched the wreath on her front door to send to Sue Jensen.

Evidence of my fourteen hours in the airport

This poor fella and I were two of many spending the day after Christmas in an airport waiting for a plane to get us back home. It only took us about 20 hours...

Wednesday at Bayview Corner



(on right) Faye did a wonderful sketch of these two bottles on our table. So in my incredibly creative way, I decided to do the same from my vantage point.

On Wednesday we all got together at the Whidbey Pie Cafe. We had several interesting and enjoyable guests while drinking coffee and drooling over the pie! Here is the result of my afternoon.

Sketching at the Raven and the Spade

So much to sketch, so little time! What a great hidden treasure!

This sketch happened because I was looking for shade in which to sketch. But I kinda like it after all!

One of Our Own at Art in the Café

Art in the Café welcomes Whidbey Island Sketcher Diana Carter to the Island Angel Chocolates Shop in the month of May.  Diana and Island Angel Chocolates invite you to an artist’s reception on Saturday evening, May 1 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at 138 2nd Street, Langley. The Artist’s Reception is in conjunction with the monthly Langley Art Walk.

After retiring in 2008, Diana and moved to Whidbey Island to begin to live her dream. “How could one not paint with so much inspiration? Whidbey is truly a painter’s paradise. I have met many wonderful people during the last year and have been painting practically non-stop. I hope you enjoy the work I have chosen to show,” says Diana.

Sketching from Alabama to Whidbey

I've been in Mobile, AL visiting family for two weeks and have some sketches to share from my trip.

We visited a coffee shop there and sketched one afternoon.

 I guess I was sort of homesick so I did the little wash of Third St. in Langley.

Finally, on Wednesday we sketched at Bayview Garden Center where we sat in the sun and drew flowers and other lovely signs of spring!
