Chinese Gods at China City

In honor of Chinese New Year, we headed to China City to have lunch, sketch and have happy hour at the bar. All in a day's work for a Whidbey Island Sketcher. Here are two of the three Chinese gods lined up in the dining room.

Big Day of Sketching

12:30 pm: Maxwelton Valley Cow (#11?)

Yesterday was a full day of sketching for me. I headed out at noon to do the Rural Whidbey Sketch Rally Challenge sketches and kept sketching through lunch, drinks and dinner at China City and book club!

I found cows on Maxwelton Road for "Something with 2 eyes and a Tail" and a rusty old truck on Double Bluff for "Something Rusty."  "Something Odd"?  . . . it was supposed to be the lower half of a man's body stick out from the open hood of the rusty truck, but it doesn't show up in the sketch. So, how about a guy taking a nap in Timbuktu at 2 in the afternoon? I found it odd that he wasn't snoring . . .

2 pm: Lunch and a sketch of a napping patron at Timbuktu Coffee in Freeland

4 pm: Sketchers meet-up at China City. (Jay and Cathy)

7 pm: My book group meets on Wednesday evenings.

Another Sketch Rally Challenge

This week's Rural Whidbey Sketch Rally challenge had us looking for/sketching:

----Something Odd (no self portraits!)

Fun stuff.  So here go my submissions:

And after the Sketch Rally, we sketchers gathered at China City in Freeland to compare our results.  I sketched folks at the bar during our Happy Hour.

Parallel Play Time at China City

Sometimes when we are sketching together it feels like happy children having parallel play time. We are each working happily alone on our own sketches, but at the same time happy to be sketching together.This week at China City, it felt like we were sketching parallel universes.

Bayview & Freeland on a Blustery Day

Here's the result of an hour or so sketching inside Bayview Farm and Garden.  Enjoyed the promise of Spring though wondering if it will ever come.

Stopped at China City in Freeland on my way home just long enough to cross paths with my hubby who was arriving to attend a retirement party.  I sipped a glass of wine and sketched until he arrived.

A Really Big Shew!

I couldn't resist sketching a bit of our show on the walls of  Whidbey Pies Cafe this Wednesday. It looks great! We were excited to learn we had our first sale on Wednesday morning before we arrived! Congrats to Sherryl on the sale of  "Beach Cuddle."

Catching up with the Sketchers

I managed to catch up with the Whidbey Sketchers for a last hour of sunshine at Island Recycle. Unlimited subject matter!! Lucy was delightful in front of the dumpster.

J. Dogg's a Badass!

Naaaa. I think he's really a cream puff. Here are my sketches of J. Dogg and Jason at China City. Jason is an artist and a sketcher, and I sure hope to see him in my class starting November 6th at South Whidbey Parks and Recreation.

A few of us stopped by China City for a drink and a sketch after a grueling afternoon of drawing chickens and junk at Island Recycling. We found some interesting local characters out on the patio. They caught us sketching them and next thing you know, they're lining up to have their portraits sketched.
