Nearby - La Conner & Anacortes

Summer is a terrific time to take a watercolor sketching on location workshop - fabulous warm weather, great water views and sunny skies.  Three of us from the Whidbey Island Sketchers joined a few from the Anacortes Sketchers and a few sketchers from Samish Island for a 4 day workshop taught by Montreal sketcher/painter Shari Blaukopf

Below = my workshop work on (top to bottom):  1) simplifying, 2) boats, and 3) foliage.  Still MUCH to learn and practice but it was a glorious 4 days!

    1. Green with envy. These are terrific. I think you've reached a whole new level in your sketching. Please share some tips that you learned in the workshop.

    2. Thanks Optimistic Ex and Sue! As far as tips - I guess the biggest is "simplify, simplify, simplify", followed by working WAY more wet than I ever have and with way bigger brushes than I ever have -- making it necessarily more simple and less fussy because one is working with big, wet brushes. And, lastly - start with a wash of the lightest value across much of the piece and build from there (of course saving your whites). Anyway, I have MUCH to practice from what I learned.
