Whidbey Whimsy: Judi's Papier-mâché Birds

Judi and the UUCWI art committee did a beautiful job of displaying Whidbey Island Sketchers' work at the Whidbey Whimsy art show at the Unitarian church. But the sketchbooks were my favorite part of the exhibit. You may never again have the opportunity to see all these fabulous sketchbooks in one place and be able to flip through and enjoy them at your leisure. Truly a visual feast. I sketched the fun and fantastical wildlife -- papier-mâché creatures sculpted by Judi Nyerges.

Highway 525 Sketch Rally (& Poetry Reading)

Here are my efforts for the Highway 525 Rainy Day Sketch Rally Challenge:

Animal
Vegetable(s) at The Goose Grocer
Minerals? In the silverware tray at Cozy's?

Another mineral! (Because the Gnat is a real gem!)

And for some post-sketch-rally poetry, I made a stop at the Unitarian Church (just off Highway 525) for Natalie's poetry reading and art show. You must stop by if only to see Natalie's piece entitled "Beetle Dream." My favorite piece in the show. Wonderful!

Whidbey Island Sketchers Exhibit at UUCWI

Natalie's "Driving to Paris" Journal
Whidbey Island Sketchers has a new exhibit in the lobby art gallery of the Unitarian Church in Freeland. Ten sketchers are showing both framed sketches and sketchbooks. Sue Van Etten, Sherryl Goldfinger, Kris Wiltse, Lisbeth Cort, Judi Nyerges-Beaudoin, Lois Mathews, Julie Pittis, Pat Brookes, Diana Carter and Natalie Olsen participated in this show.

The show runs through the end of February. The gallery is open to the public every Sunday morning after services, 11:00 am - noon. The gallery is also open to folks attending other activities and events in the building during the week. Check out the schedule here: http://www.my.calendars.net/uucwi/

We thank UUCWI for inviting us to share our sketches during January and February. Joan, Dallas and Mary from  the Visual Arts Committee did a wonderful job of hanging the show. They made us look good!

Christmas Pageant at the Unitarian Church

Our group was invited to exhibit our sketches at the Unitarian Church's lobby art gallery in January and February. In conjunction with that, we were also invited to sketch at their Christmas Pageant dress rehearsal yesterday. This is Judi's wonderful sketch collage of the event which I think will make it's way into the show!

Judi says:

"What a wonderful group of nativity animals. Of course the people (Mary, Joseph, the Magi, innkeeper's family) were grand, but the animals (from the sheep and camel, to the dove, donkey and adorable barn kittens) were very, very special. It was hard to pick any one participant to sketch, so I tried to do them all!"
