Huge thanks and gratitude to Costume Mistress Judith V. for allowing the Whidbey Island Sketchers up into the costume storage loft at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA). So many beautiful costumes, hats, headdresses, capes, fans and SHOES!!! Very hard to choose and focus on just one neat thing to draw!

SKETCHING IN A RETRO "JAPANESE MODERN" HOME
We met at Sketcher Annette's unique and lovely early era Japanese Modern style home overlooking the Sound at Mutiny Bay. The view is extraordinary from her decks, and we all settled in comfortably in cozy deck chairs at tables. The spectacular, the view didn't appeal to me as much as did the exotic decorative pieces around the home. This golden rooster, one of a pair of handsome fighting roosters, especially caught my eye. I paired it up with a gilded imari bowl from a different room. Perfect together!
Fellow sketcher Judith lent me use of her neat set of gold watercolors, which made this guy really crow!

SKETCHING AT JUDITH'S HOUSE
A beautiful day for sketching in the gardens and on the decks of sketcher Judith Van Arnam's house. My eye was caught both by the flash of Opera Rose geraniums welcoming us at the front door, and by the heron weathervane soaring high atop the house against the Cobalt Blue sky.

Fire Station #31 in Freeland
While most of the sketchers soaked up sunshine outside the firehouse, Judith Van Arnam ventured inside. This is Judith's sketch of the rescue mannequins Crash Kelly and Rescue Randy entangled on the floor.

Pink
One of my favorite colors! Fuschia, Rose Red, but definitely in the Pink family. Judith had a bouquet of beautiful pale pink peonies on her table. Barb had a new Orchid that spoke Fuschia to me; unfortunately, I had permanent rose in my palette when Opera would have been perfect. Oh well, close enough!

Judith's Maple Ridge Sketches
Be still my heart! I am head over heels for these two sketches Judith did at Maple Ridge. Judith has challenged herself to learn to draw people in 2015. Just look where she is on January 9th! I can't wait to see where she goes from here.

Judith's home
I seem to be attracted to Shadow Puppets and shadows. Todays' examples, a multiple shadow of the birdcage from multiple light sources and catching the light above the armoire in the foyer. Thanks Judith for a lovely visit and all the beautiful setups to sketch in your home.

Catching up
What a wonderful sunny day I enjoyed sketching Langley Fabric & Antiques. LangleyFineFabric&Antiques. This past week was sunny also and I loved sketching the light at Judith's, not to mention the gabfest and party afterwards.
