Bayview Farm and Garden

Had the hardest time finding JUST the right spot to Sketch the newly remodeled and expanded Bayview Farm and Garden. Finally settled into my chair in the shade in front of the Flower House Cafe, with a mug of chai tea, facing the main entrance of the Garden Store. I'll have to come back to sketch flowers - there were so many! After sketching we gathered at the Taproom Brew Pub for refreshments - Ginger Hard Cider and a plate of crab cakes. Yep. A fine day, indeed, in a very fine location.

People at the Flower House Cafe

Our first time sketching at the cozy Flower House Cafe at Bayview Farm & Garden was excellent. Some of my favorite activities  -- drinking good coffee, eating delicious food, sketching people, shopping and hanging with fun friends -- were all rolled up into one congenial afternoon. Thanks to the friendly staff for making us feel welcome. We'll be back!

Opening Night at the Taproom at Bayview Corner

We just happened to stumble on the Taproom at Bayview Corner for post sketching happy hour on their opening night a few weeks ago. The place was hopping and overflowing with great sketchable characters and I got a few. If opening night was any indication, it looks like it will be a great success!

Richard Evans / NEAR-EARTH OBJECTS

Loved Richard Evans / NEAR-EARTH OBJECTS exhibition at the Bayview Cash store.
His creativity is endless. I have to admit, my favorite piece was his sketch board.

Handmade on Whidbey & Vintage clothing at Senior Thrift

Fun times sketching cute kids clothing today at our newly reorganized Community Thrift Store in Freeland.  I also sketched some old handmade quilts and the other day saw a lady walk out with a really nice old red, white and blue Texas star(? ) that she bought for $100; it had a $200 price tag.  Bargain!!!
After that we picked up a glass of wine at Blooms Winery and hung out at the new Pop up shop in the Bayview Cash Store, called Handmade on Whidbey.  There are many wonderful artists selling their work there during the Christmas season.  This is run by the ever energetic Vicky Brown of The Little Brown Farm where she makes goat cheese extraordinaire.

FABULOUS DAY OF SKETCHING IN THE SUN AMONG THE FLOWERS

We'd just planned to sketch at Bayview Corner, but the weather was so gorgeous, and the flowers and plants out back were so inviting, that we spent the day in the sunshine among the bumble bees.
I'd love this shed for no other reason than the sign hanging on it that says "Bloom Where You Are Planted", one of my all time favorite sayings!
I met this old gentleman waiting on the porch outside for his person to come to take him home. He was a very accommodating model, and very sweet!

So cold . . so cold . . . my fingers are numb!

But I got in starter sketches from two places that were going to lose their color in a day or two. I raced out before noon, sketched from the car in Langley, sketched from the front porch and ran inside for coffee in Bayview, then finished at home. I "painted the sunshine", 'cause it sure wasn't there!

My Mom's Rhododendron Fountain in Bayview. So much prettier a couple of days ago, but maybe that's because I was so cold there today.

Bayview Farm and Garden

It rained buckets outside, and inside the greenhouse it was still finger-numbing cold.........but there were many charming vignettes for painting at Bayview Farm and Garden.

Half Link Bike Shop, Bayview

Tree crutch under a very BIG, old apple tree beside the Half Link bike shop------wish I had drawn more bicycle and less tree.

Bayview Farm & Garden

What a glorious day to be back sketching among friends in the Pacific Northwest! Spring has arrived on Whidbey and Bayview Farm & Garden was full of the promise of summer abundance.

A Robin and a Chair at Bayview Corner

What a BEAUTIFUL DAY for sketching outside!  The air was warm and sweet, the sun was shining - it was quite wonderful.  And just as I settled myself in to sketch the fountain in front of the Basil Cafe a robin landed on its top to survey the scene!
There were even still some blossoms on the old apple tree above the twig chair.  It was a perfect day.  The WISkers were happy campers!

Today we got to warm up in the sun at Bayview
corner. Maybe not quite as warm as our friends
who are in Mexico this week, but it surely was a
pleasure to be outside with the flowers.

Bayview & Freeland on a Blustery Day

Here's the result of an hour or so sketching inside Bayview Farm and Garden.  Enjoyed the promise of Spring though wondering if it will ever come.

Stopped at China City in Freeland on my way home just long enough to cross paths with my hubby who was arriving to attend a retirement party.  I sipped a glass of wine and sketched until he arrived.

Sketching at Bayview

The inside of the Bayview Farm and Garden was warm with lots of fun and interesting objects to sketch today.
These are actually Faux antique painted boxes not the wedding cake it looks like.

This spring flower arrangement sat in front of the purple doors with the sun filtering through the windows.

Julie's Purple Chair at Bayview

Julie's sketch of the famous purple chair at  Bayview Cash Store

Bayview Cash Store

While others were huddled around the purple chair, I found a spot to just stare at the wall and draw this light fixture illuminating a Japanese print. It was part of  a beautiful print display by Fine Balance Imaging.
