Our Lady of the Cascadian Woods
She's wild and green and larger than life. With a skirt of of greens and a crown of ferns, she is bedecked in garlands of vines, succulents, berries and a bird's nest. Utterly regal and magnificent. Come see her in all her glory in the greenhouse at Bayview Farm and Garden. Our Lady of the Cascadian Woods was created by Maureen Murphy, the talented proprietress of our local nursery.

Morning at the Laburnum Arch
Well, one sketch of the day done. This one, the Laburnum Arch at Bayview Farm & Garden. I forgot to leave room for detail insets, so I improvised. Actually, I rather like the idea of audience participation art.
Sketch - before. I forgot that I wanted to put in detail insets.
Sketch, after. Well, that fixed it. And it is always fun to open flaps.

The Famous Laburnum Arbor
The famous Laburnum Arbor at Bayview Farm and Garden is so magnificent, it is humbling. Kind of makes you want to stand there under the arbor and belt out Ave Maria or something, assuming you could actually sing. Which I can't. It's now a major tourist attraction, featured in national magazines. I tried to capture just a small section of it with the intertwined climbing roses, while trying to stay out of the way of tourists getting their pictures taken under the arbor and nursery workers wheeling carts down the aisles. Hats off to owner Maureen Murphy, an amazing artist of the garden.

'tis the season at the Flower House Cafe
The Flower House Cafe is so cheery this time of year it would be impossible to not be in a joyful mood while there. Of course the delicious food they serve helps.
The down side of painting on Yupo is any drop of water can smudge the image. Of course that happened as I was walking out of the cafe and not willing to work any more on this piece.

People at the Flower House Cafe
Our first time sketching at the cozy Flower House Cafe at Bayview Farm & Garden was excellent. Some of my favorite activities -- drinking good coffee, eating delicious food, sketching people, shopping and hanging with fun friends -- were all rolled up into one congenial afternoon. Thanks to the friendly staff for making us feel welcome. We'll be back!

Bayview Farm and Garden
My reputation is set. As I walked into Bayview Farm & Garden, fellow Sketcher Judi excitedly told me about Handsome Rob and how I just HAD to meet him and his hens. Yes, I obviously love sketching and painting animals. Who knew Bayview had chickens? I think chickens are beautiful, funny, big personality birds. Couldn't pull myself away, except to shop. Brought home a carful of wonderful new plants for my garden. The displays are irresistible ... so many flowers and edibles ideas! Thank you, BF&G, for allowing us to scurry and sketch all over your place yesterday. And ... I agree ... Handsome Rob is exactly that. Crow away, big guy!
I'm still experimenting with fine colored Sharpies to play with lots of lines under my paintings. Sketching musicians, constantly in motion, is good practice for sketching chickens. That sounds odd ... but it's true. How do you capture a constantly moving target? Lines ... playful repeated imprecise lines.

Blooming Garden
Some of the garden art was a little spooky
but overall it was a beautiful day under the Golden Chain Arbor at Bayview Farm and Garden.

Bayview Farm & Garden
I was delighted to find that the Golden Chain Arbor was still in bloom at Bayview Farm and Garden today. I found a seat under the shade of the arbor and just sketched the view from where I sat.
And, of course, my usual happy hour drawing of that sketchable girl with the black hair.

FABULOUS DAY OF SKETCHING IN THE SUN AMONG THE FLOWERS
We'd just planned to sketch at Bayview Corner, but the weather was so gorgeous, and the flowers and plants out back were so inviting, that we spent the day in the sunshine among the bumble bees.
I'd love this shed for no other reason than the sign hanging on it that says "Bloom Where You Are Planted", one of my all time favorite sayings!
I met this old gentleman waiting on the porch outside for his person to come to take him home. He was a very accommodating model, and very sweet!

BAYVIEW FARM & GARDEN
Today's flash mob of Sketchers occurred at the beautifully stocked store of Bayview Farm & Garden. There were innumerable interesting scenes to sketch. I only had time enough for one and chose this joyful Laughing Buddha, whom I placed beneath Phaeleanopsis orchids and Staghorn ferns, given there was no Boddhi tree. I think he found enlightenment.
