YUPO AND GLASS

There is nothing like yupo for letting you see the vibrant color.  This first piece on the left was 180# watercolor paper in my sketchbook.  I made a first pass, painting directly on the paper drawing with my brush.  Then when it was dry went back to add more color and shadow.
The piece below is on Yupo,  the painting technique was the same, with my brush, then removing some paint for highlights.  The paint really glows on the Yupo!  Be sure to try it on Feb 14th at Kims.
By the way, the studio was wonderful with so much glass to paint I could have spent all day.

Relaxing at Glass Alley

Delicious food and relaxing environment at the Glass Alley in Freeland.
Maybe the background is a little too relaxed?

Love that Yupo. It is easy to make changes with Yupo.
I could continue until there is nothing left of this sketch but
I'm ready to start another experiment.

'tis the season at the Flower House Cafe

The Flower House Cafe is so cheery this time of year it would be impossible to not be in a joyful mood while there. Of course the delicious food they serve helps.

The down side of painting on Yupo is any drop of water can smudge the image. Of course that happened as I was walking out of the cafe and not willing to work any more on this piece.

Birds at Bar

It feels as if the sea birds outside of Ivar's would be happy to join us inside for a french fry or two. Watching the sea life and bar life was a cozy way to celebrate Kris's birthday. Again good company and good food.

The top watercolor was inspired by Mike Todoroff. The bottom watercolor was a seagull hanging out on the rail.

An artist home full of art

Susan's home was welcoming with the aromas of delicious food, a cosy fire and a wonderful variety of original art. The sketchers all got right to work drawing their favorite scenes. Mine is a combination of visual impressions.

Fun Band, Gentle Evening

A funky day quickly turned into raucous fun and uplifted spirits with the Senior Center Fun Friday Band. There was too much action for me to sketch anything to post. Later we settled into gentle festivities with a still centerpiece and supportive people at Cynthia's.

I'm still flowing with watercolor on Yupo.

Ebey Bowl

The Coke bottle was just a small part of the nostalgic decor at the alleys. It was inspiring to be part of the enthusiasm the sketchers brought to the day.

I'm still experimenting with the Yupo paper, which allows the watercolor to slip and flow on the page. It's also easy to lift the color off the page to create highlights. Are the small dots from the pigment, dust on the Yupo or fizz from the coke?
