A memorable birthday started at Mukilteo Coffee and ended at the Rod and Gun Club. We sketched our favorite Coffeehouse and ended up with Bambi sketches (sad). In between Natalie kept us warm, dry, fed and wined while we sketched the food and each other and discussed a trip to Winthrop. My favorite two sketches are below. One of which brought my pal Gary out to find out why I was shooing people away from parking in front of his Coffee place. The reason was the pumpkins. I couldn't see through the cars when they parked in front! Oh well!

Fun at Mukilteo Coffee
It was an enjoyeable day of sketching with my comrades at Mukilteo Coffee and the Edgecliff. So much fun and great conversation I hardly got anything done. But heck, everyone has been busy with work or on fabulous trips, there was much to catch up on. Stay tuned for Sue's sketches from Belgium! Here's my blah ones....

Mukilteo Coffee Roasters
Ah! Some sketchers make it look so easy! Well, not for everyone.
The coffee roasters is a charming location with interesting people and art. This fellow was focused on what he was doing and I tried to capture him with watercolor and ink.

At the Muk
Diana times 2. I had started her next to the window, then she moved before I got any detail. Sorry about that. She moved to the right to sketch so I started again.

Mukilteo Coffee ala Pat Brookes
Pat Brookes did some outstanding work at Mukilteo Coffee today. She even sold one of her sketches right out of her sketch pad as soon as she finished it!
Pat did this from the coffee roasting room -- through the glass door. Great composition and light.

Mukilteo Coffee Pajama Breakfast
We passed on the Polar Bear Dip and instead went to Mukilteo Coffee for their New Years Day Pajama Breakfast. We went in our jammies. Some others did too. We walked out with a half pound of coffee for doing it. Nice! Thank you Mukilteo Coffee!
Here's some sketches. No pajamas, though.

What I Like
You know what I like about drawing at cafes? Free models. Coffee, muffins and good company.
A sketch from Useless Bay Coffee. I have leg issues too...

And two others from Mukilteo Coffee...

Mukilteo Coffee Roasters - Laptop Guy
This guy was sitting by himself, working on a laptop. I always keep an eye out for subjects sitting alone. They are ususally concentrating on something and don't move as much as people who are in a group talking. And because they are concentrating on their own work or reading, they are less likely to catch you sketching them!
My first sketch was the one on the left - he had changed positions on me, and I gave up on it before he had a head. Later at home, I just added a head (a head too small for his body I see now). I was fairly happy with the one on the right, so I added some color.
When he got up to leave, I said "Sorry to see you go!" When he saw we had been sketching him, he was flattered and offered to stay longer so we could finish our drawings (even though his laptop battery had died). What a sweetie!
My husband thinks it's an invasion of privacy to go about sketching people unawares, but I've found people to be really supportive of us cafe sketchers. I just hope there's no one in the witness protection program sitting in our local cafes. :)
