A.L. Anderson

Was A.L. Anderson a philanthropist?  It seems so.  He donated land for the Langley Woodsman Cemetery, allows the Highlands to use his property for a pea patch.  What more can we learn about this person.  Check out my blog for details.

Angel

Old topped Firs create a spooking feeling at this cemetery.  I looked into the cemetery past the beautiful angel and thought of fog and Halloween.  Ooooo!

Angel at the Cemetery

Nice to visit with my fellow sketchers at the Langley Cemetery. They all produced outstanding work. And the weather was good.
I have been obsessed with this angel for a month or so. I've done numerous false starts in addition to three sketches. There's just something about her. She has a wistful expression and a longing in her attitude as she looks towards the sky. She's also somewhat crudely crafted which is appealing to me. I'll be painting her again.

Langley Woodmen Cemetery

One of the magnificent ancient fir trees in Langley Cemetery
The Langley Woodmen Cemetery has an interesting past. Founded by the Woodmen's Lodge in 1902, it is the oldest cemetery on South Whidbey. You can learn more about it here.

It's very peaceful and as one sketcher observed, "There's a lot of green."

The Blessed Virgin and California Poppies adorn this sweet grave

I was originally attracted to this grave because of the juxtaposition of the Blessed Virgin Mary on one end of the plot with a big green frog statue on the other. I wondered if they represented different aspects of the deceased's nature. But due to poor planning, the frog was off the page and didn't get sketched.

At Langley Cemetery

A beautiful day in Langley and a great spot for sketching - quiet too!
