After the trauma of leaving behind two Snowshoe Siamese cats and a little Chihuahua mix doggie at WAIF last Friday, it was good for my soul to sit upstairs at the Greenbank Grille, in the company of friends, and sketch and eat warm Whidbey Pies Triple Berry Pie. Oh, and drink wine. Took some liberties with my colors when I got home, but I needed to flang some paint around.

and then to Timbuktu
Who knew? Toys at the Greenbank Store. Stuffed in a basket on one of the tables....just a brief visit, only long enough for one small, quick sketch.
.
...and then on to Timbuktu!! Not in the heart of Africa, but in Freeland!! A coffee shop with delicious treats (many gluten free), and it is now a gallery, too. Very tempting goodies...
Thanks Lauren for your warm welcome. It was so comfortable to sketch in your lovely shop.
Phyllis, our newest sketcher was very focused, She does look nicer than this however.

Greenbank Store sketches
Had a totally great day sketching on Wednesday! I chuckled and chuckled to myself at the twist of karmic fate that had picked me up from the Midwest and sat me down in a General Store in Washington drawing a cast iron stove from Dowagiac in my old stomping grounds of Michigan. A long way to come to see a very familiar name!

Greenbank Grocery #1
I feel so fortunate to have been invited to sketch with the Whidbey Island Sketchers. I had so much fun on Wed. And I was on fire. I couldn't quit sketching. I made 7 sketches!!! I don't intend to post them all, but thanks for inviting me to post with you. I was using my new Lamy fountain pen and brown Noodler's ink (as recommended by Faye and Sue) with a few splashes of water.Thursday, January 27, 2011

Pat's Greenbank Store Sketches
The plant wagon and the crow seem to be the overwhelming favorites among sketching subjects in the Greenbank Cafe. I can see why.
Pat says "The couple eating lunch are interested in purchasing their sketch. I may have something going here." Cool!

A Guy. A Camellia
Great couple of hours sketching at the Greenbank Café. I started sketching a guy having breakfast (below). Then my brunch arrived, I stopped to eat, and the guy was done. Hence, the sketch isn't really finished below the table!
But, I turned my focus to this lovely camellia in a dainty pitcher and all was right with the world.

Greenbank Store
The Green bank Store Cafe has delicious breakfast.
It's a charming Cafe with clever art and fresh flowers. This wagon was full of fresh ivy shining in the sunlight.

The Old Stove
Greenbank Store Front

We were excited to have local artist and vintner, Betty Rayle, join our little group at the Greenbank Store. She sketched this whimsical and charming image of the front of the store, looking out the front door to the gas pumps. Great fun. Thank you Betty!
Old Stove and Cowboy: The Greenbank Store

The beautiful stove at The Greenbank Store - The most popular subject of this week's sketches! What a great place to sketch. I could spend a month sketching there and still not capture all the charms of the Greenbank Store and Cafe. Upstairs, downstairs, in the deli, out the windows, the old gas pumps - everywhere you look - it's a veritable feast for the imagination.

Greenbank Cafe and Store Sketches

We had a wonderful day sketching at the Greenbank Cafe and Store. The cafe's in a loft and overlooks the store, allowing one a birds eye view of the goods below. The whole place is full of drawings to be done with it's friendly old country funk, wrought iron and wood staircase, and well worn creaky floors. The decorative wood stove downstairs was a great piece to center on so it was a must to include. I began in the cafe with a little black and white drawing fully intending to look over the railing down onto the store to sketch, but didn't get to it. All in all, it was a great day of drawing, and meeting new and interesting people.
