We met today in the meeting room of the Freeland Library - a very comfortable way to sketch and socialize. Just inside are the stacks, and all the reference information we could want to paint a "forgery", find a gorgeous photo, or, in my case, happen on the terrific book by John M. Marzluff, illustrated by Tony Angell, from the University of Washington, which has everything you've ever wanted to know about Crows and Ravens. A definitive work about a definitive study of the cultural of these amazing birds. Fascinating!
I cribbed some of the foliage outside for a colorful still life, just because I could.

Sketching at the Freeland Library
It certainly felt good to sit and sketch again after such a long hiatus. I have missed it! And I have missed seeing all my dear Whidbey Island Sketcher friends!

A literate porcupine
I love the images from the Freeland Library and Friday I discovered the Porcupine in the kids section. The chairs below were made with love and are sturdy but cute. The backs are Clover, Tulip, Flower and Acorn and the legs look like baseball bats. I did three sketches, the last one was hasty because China City beckoned with Happy hour food.

One more from the Freeland Library
Started at the Library, finished at home. For Sketchers, and also, nicely, for the Every Day in May Challenge, Day #9.
FYI, for anyone interested - a Pentel Technica Hybrid pen is not waterproof. Not that it matters. Much.

SKETCHING IN THE KIDS ROOM AT THE FREELAND LIBRARY
Sketched this today for my home work assignment for Sketchbook Skool - a Tommy Kane style drawing/painting. Three hours on the drawing at the library, four hours on the finishing at home - WAY too long for a "sketch". But I had fun doing it.

Friday Afternoon in the Freeland Library
"It's the sketchers!" I heard this as we descended on the Freeland Library yesterday afternoon. The place was packed with activity for us to sketch. Of course I had to draw Computer Guy but also tried to capture my view into the children's room where lots of sketching was going on.
Library Guys
What a hub of activity the Freeland Library was on Friday. Dozens of people of all ages were making use of the library resources - it was a model of community vitality. And a truly happening place!
I thought this guy was very interesting. Everything about him said "Grandpa", except that prominent hoop earring! I was getting too hungry to sketch by the time I got to him and didn't have the strength to draw the details. Added color and finished it up over appetizers at China City.

Library and the Edgecliff
The library workshop was so fun! And there were so many enthusiastic people wanting to learn and draw. A number of children too. Thank you JoAnn and Jay!I did a small sketch of the flower still life at the end of class.
Sue and I headed to the Edgecliff for "unwinding." An interesting bunch last evening. Got in a few sketches. What a pleasure.

Children's Storytime at Freeland Library
Today we sketched Children's Storytime at the Freeland Library. Toddlers. All I can say is "What were we thinking?" My sketches are all pretty rough.
Here's Junior. He was a pretty good little model for toddler. Great attention span and great hat! His mom says he likes to accessorize. Hoping to catch him another time in one of his other hats.
Here's somebody's mom - maybe Junior's mom? And Junior again.
Apres storytime activities.
Another Storytime mom with a cuppa joe.
A mom and daughter listen to the story.
Scenes in the library
From the smallest reader in the children's room to an older gentleman intent on his work... it was a fun morning sketching in the Freeland Library.

Wednesday Sketching - Freeland Library & Lighthouse Cafe
Man at the Lighthouse Cafe
Looking out the window - a quiet morning inside the library leaves time for daydreaming.
The closest I got to anyone reading a book at the Freeland library was this man writing on paper. Everyone else was using the computers.

Freeland Library then Cake
The library is a great place to draw people and stuff. Books, computers, people writing and doing stuff. It's also quiet and one can focus on sketching.

Then after an hour we all got hungry and went to the Lighthouse for a sandwich, coffee and Carrot Cake. Here's Sue getting upset and making threatening gestures to make us stop looking at her.
