At the South Whidbey Historical Society Museum

Today the Whidbey Island Sketchers met in the Langley Whale Museum, and the South Whidbey Historical Society's Museum, right next door. I didn't finish my sketch from the Whale Museum yet, but here is the one I did get done from the History Museum. Truth to tell, most of the things in the museum are dead ringers for things in my house. Help! I am trapped in a 1980's Country Living Magazine!!!!!

THE TREASURE ISLAND CATS

After what seems like a months and months, instead of just weeks, I joined a very small, but dedicated, group of Whidbey Island Sketchers yesterday to visit Treasure Island Antiques and Collectibles in Greenbank. Many delightful "treasures" to see and sketch - furniture, china, dolls, lamps, etc. I was (of course) immediately drawn to this reproduction sabre tooth tiger skull (which was right next to the reproduction "Predator" skull. Ew). I was also drawn immediately to Henry the Wonder Cat, a very sleek and handsome striped fellow, who gave us all a head-bump "hello" greetings, jumped right into my car to explore it, and happily did his "trick" for us - climbing up an 8 foot ladder to the roof of the building so he could survey everyone down in his domain. Treasure Island has many lovely things for sale, but I think I want Henry.

SO Much Here to Sketch

We were invited back by Marian and Phil to sketch inside their amazing Victorian home in Clinton. We sketched outside last summer and could hardly wait to accept the Lanahan's invitation to come back again when the house was decorated for the Holidays. It is always hard in such a "target rich environment" to find just the right subject to sketch, but as soon as I spied the blue enamel kitchen woodstove in the corner of the breakfast nook I knew I had my sketch. Loaded with blue spatterware, old kitchen utensils, tin chocolate and cookie molds, enamel coffeepots and pans of fruit, the Quick Meal stove was charming from top to bottom.
