Garden/Whidbey Institute

Pietala Garden

Beautiful place, quiet and restful. My choice was the garden gate.  I wish I could have come earlier and stayed longer. Pat

Pine Tree

Painted this old, massive tree at the Whidbey Institute. So many colors bouncing around on it's trunk. Blues, violets, greens, and rusts reflected from the dead needles on the ground. It's a magnificent tree. I was riveted.

Warm sunny afternoon at Whidbey Institute

Just sitting in the sunshine on a wood bench, at the W.I. property, while sketching these old weathered wood buildings was a great way to spend a warm lazy day. The contrast of dark shadows in the bright sun created interesting designs to draw in the sketching compositions. This sketch was done in pen and ink with some cross hatching for varied values in the shadows.

Picnic at Whidbey Institute

I've had to miss the past couple of regular Whidbey Island Sketchers wednesday meet-ups.  So it was fun to get at least one sketch in on Saturday after lunch at the Whidbey Institute while on the annual Whidbey Island Garden Tour.  Fab tour and glorious lunchtime sketching.
