Halloween at Studio 106!

Thanks dear WISkers for making Halloween so dang much fun this year! The costumes were magnificent, the food fabulous, the sketching endless, and Studio 106 was pulsing with laughter and creative energy. Paula was magnificent as Queen of the Night just stopping by for awhile on her way to the opera. Nothing could make Judith look spooky, not even her cracked china doll face. Her inside out jacket was a stroke of genius. Of course Mary, with her new hair do, nearly stole the show. But wait! Miss Piggy posed provocatively for us, moving only to sip her wine. Kathy the skeleton, took a yoga break. Sherryl looked rakish in her top hat fascinator, and Sue's spider head dress scared us all. Faye underwhelmed us a bit as a purple crayola but she got points for creative thinking. Ann may have been a ninja warrior dressed in all black. Tricks and treats all around!

Grisalba

I finally got to draw Grisalba, the beautiful server at La Casita. I've always wanted to sketch her because of her fabulous hair and exotic features, but busy waitresses don't have time to sit still for a sketch. So, I got her a gig as as our first model for the new Monday night figure-drawing group at Studio 106. Since she had never done this before, we couldn't believe how flawlessly and elegantly she sat for 3 hours (with breaks at 20 minute intervals). A natural!

Unsuspecting visitors to the studio WILL be sketched! I'm amassing quite a collection of sketcher-husband portraits. Soon I'll be able to do a show!

See Faye Work

After scheduled sketching at Useless Bay Coffee, we repaired to Studio 106 where Faye worked and I sketched all afternoon.

Ms. Belov stopped by the studio for a visit.

Sketching Stephanie and Alyscia

Stephanie & Alyscia
We've been wanting to sketch Stephanie, our favorite server at Mo's Pub,  for a while. It finally came together yesterday. We had the opportunity to sketch both Stephanie and her beautiful daughter Alyscia at Studio 106. They both have the most beautiful eyes and mouths. I wish I could have done them justice.

Blue Model

Le modèle dans le bleu
This is from the Artwalk last Saturday.  Blue, because of the ink in the Lamy pen, not her mood.  She was so patient.

Easter bonnet

Thank you Phyllis for all the beautiful inspiration.  The hats, basket and Sharen as a model, what more could we ask for.  It was a fun day being cozy inside while the rain was pouring outside.

"It almost feels like Spring. Thanks to Phyllis for making all the lovely Easter bonnets for Studio 106"

Incogknitto at Studio 106

It's unusual for all the sketchers to focus on one subject, but today with Sharen Heath as a charming model we all seemed to have a similar focus. She entertained us with stories as she knitted and we drew.

Time Travel at Studio 106

Sharen Heath sat for the group this week, with her always-fabulous curly hair, her colorful knitting, and striped socks. She repeatedly denied that she was knitting a garment for use by the local yarn-bomber. Keep an eye out for a pink heart on a colorful pole-warmer around town.
In my second sketch of Sharen she had let down her hair, donned an Easter bonnet and lost the knitting -- and apparently about 40 years. I made her look 14 years old! I think she looks adorable.

For apres-sketching it was Chez Sherryl, where I drew the view out the window and John sitting across the table from me.

"The Girl in the Flowered Hat" @ Studio 106

Our beautiful young model last night (whose name, of course, totally escapes me) held this pose for 1 1/2 hours!  She never moved and never took a break!  She absolutely should be doing this professionally! Thank you to Phyllis for the use of Studio 106.  Again, it was a grand time of Art and Fellowship! ( . .  and for selling art!!)

Studio 106 Sketch Party

Marcia was the first visitor to walk in the door and our first sketching subject at Studio 106 last night. She was a great sport and a good model. I really liked my angle on this one and enjoyed sketching her.

I was just about finished when the belly dancing sisters, Twyla and Celina Dill, arrived and got into their gorgeous costumes. What a treat! We all did our best to capture them in motion with their skirts and beads flying. A challenge to say the least. The girls were just adorable and real troopers. They held what must have been a very uncomfortable pose until their arms were about to fall off! We found a few beads and bangles from their costumes when we cleaned up the studio today. Sweet.

I LOVE LANGLEY posted more photos of the event on facebook.

Serafina's Belly Sketch

Serafina sketched Celina's belly and a section of the finery at the top of her skirt. Great collection of patterns and textures here!

Studio 106 Saturday Night

Saturday night was crowded with WISk, viewing browsers, volunteer model and belly dancers all enjoying the special music, ambience and fun of the evening at Studio 106. A great way to spend Saturday night for sketching and meeting new people of the island.

While we were sketching a young gal walked in the doorway carrying a bouquet of carrots in her arms. She looked like she had entered the wrong door but actually stopped in to visit and view the paintings after shopping at the Star. I had to draw this from memory.

There were two lovely belly dancers modeling and dancing for us while we sketched and the men in the room looked on.

This is our one volunteer who was brave and a good model.

Mystery Weekend at Studio 106 - Day 2

This is Natalie from Stanwood, the cutest detective and most mysterious character who dropped by the studio on Sunday. And what a great little model!
Natalie sat on a stool right next to Wired Wilma.
 The whole family was there!
The Paynes
The suspicious Paynes stopped in to warm up between lies. I didn't have a CLUE how to capture all the bling they were wearing.

Another beautiful and mysterious lady in the studio.
