Manzanillo Mexico Sketching Trip

I was lucky enough to be invited to join fellow Sketchers Phyllis, Faye, and Sue in the perfect weather & beautiful vistas in Manzanillo, Mexico.  We sketched every day, and here's some of my sketches from scenes at the beach.

 I'm pretty crazy about this sketch, "A smoke on the beach."

This couple really knows how to enjoy retirement.  They were all set up in front of a wonderful restaurant called "Oasis," under huge umbrellas, with delicious food and cool beverages.

Messing Around I Mexico

There's really not much to say. Perfect weather. Nothing to do but sketch, swim, read. We are going to Saturday market Soon. That will require more effort. Lucky, lucky us. 

Magical Mexico!

What a pleasure it was for me to share my beloved part of Mexico with sketchers. Everyone was sketching dawn to dusk! Every day was sweet whether we stayed on "the compound", went up the street to Annie's home filled with folk art, visited Manzanillo or Barra de Navidad. Some sketched while we ate, while we talked, while we sat on the beach (punctuated with dips in the ocean). And, of course, there was the daily water aerobics! I miss those. Whatta way to start and spend the day. AND our glamorous dinner with Barb's new cowboy beau. (I think that was the only time no one was sketching....though lots of photos were taken).

Last Posting from Sunny Mexico

Tomorrow I fly back to the Great Northwest, so these are my last postings from the sunshine for awhile. I spent last evening at the home of a neighbor and while there I did these 3 sketches. Annie is an artist in every aspect of her life. Her home is one of her art forms and it is a masterpiece. She also has a huge collection of fabulous folk art. Two of these sketches reflect a couple of her folk art pieces. The other is the view from her terrace (essentially the same view we have from Casa Amanecer). Hasta la vista mi amigas y amigos!

Oh the days dwindle down to a precious few. Only 4 more days here in the sun. Then back to the Great NW. I've been loving my sketching practice. Today I am posting two still lifes and a drawing of a friend of mine. The rooster sketch is in answer to the WISketchers Hula Fish. This is gecko cock. I love the very delicate flowers with grapefruit. It's usually hard for me to stay delicate. Our grapefruit tree here is laden with sweet, juicy grapefruit. I drew my friend, Frank, while we were having lunch and drinks on our beach.

Buenos tardes from Casa Amanecer

My sketch a day program is going along swimmingly. Here are two sketches from La Bouquita Beach and one from our living room. I really like the very simple little sketch in the middle of a fruit vendor. I had just a minute or two to capture them before they moved. The first sketch is of the inflatable beach toy vendor. I love seeing those toys going down the beach. The flower sketch helped to settle me into myself after a day of a great many people being in and out all day.

Hola from sunny, warm, delicious Mexico!

I promised myself I'd do at least one sketch a day....and think of the Whidbey Island Sketchers. So far I have missed only one day. One day I sketched my lounge chair and the view, another is my friend Lynn reading on the terrace, and today I sketched this cart on the beach. The weather is perfect, the views fantastic, Too much to see and do and eat and drink......Life is good.
