Friday Fun Band - Christmas Edition

We sketched at one of my favorite venues this Friday, the Friday Fun Band at South Whidbey Senior Services. I was pleased to capture the entire band in one double-page sketch. One gal even appears twice in my sketch - once when she was standing up singing a solo ("I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" - she was awesome!) and again when she was back in her seat playing a horn with the rest of the band.

And THEN, a member of the audience entertained us sketchers with a couple of his seasonal snowman jokes. He assured us he was well known for his jokes.

Q: Do you know where snowmen keep their money?
A: In a snow bank!

Q: What happens when a snowman meets Dracula?
A: Frost bite!

And then I got a couple of sketches of the Time Together crowd dancing with volunteers to Christmas tunes. Loved it! Added a little stardust splatter for a festive touch.

Rockin' at the Senior Center

We had SUCH a great time at The Senior Center with the Friday Fun Band. There was so much activity - live music, dancing, singing,  and laughter. Even when taking a break the happiness was everywhere - clapping hands, tapping feet and big smiles!

Friday Fun Band at the Senior Center

The South Whidbey Senior Center is the place to be on Friday mornings. The Friday Fun Band starts rehearsing at 9:00am . The performance and dancing starts at 10:45. Music, laughter, singing, dancing, crazy characters. What an invigorating way to start the day! This is our second time sketching at Friday Fun Band. We love it. But boy, trying to draw people dancing is always a lesson in humility.

Friday Fun Band at the Senior Center

We always meet at 1pm on Fridays, but not today. Today we made an exception in order to sketch the fabulous Friday Fun Band at the South Whidbey Senior Center. They don't call them the Fun Band for nothing. It WAS really, really fun. Whidbey Island Sketchers love a party and it was our kind of crowd - live music, dancing, laughing, singing - all before noon! We even heard our first sketching joke. Bob, who plays the trombone, asked, "Have you ever drawn a conclusion??" What a hoot.
