South Whidbey's best Community store

I Love to sketch here in the new remodeled children's section.
I can see why it is so popular.
I only wish I could bring them all home with me.

Just $385

For just $385, you too can go back in time, risking life and limb and have this fantastic washer that might have cost $50 or $100 in the Fifties.  Does anyone have any idea what these used to cost?  Anyhow, the Community Thrift has this beauty and I wonder who kept it so nice for all these years.
The shadow is a Rocking chair!
Leave it to me to find a picture within a picture.

From Community Thrift to Tapas

What an afternoon in Freeland.  First to sketch at Community Thrift and then to Happy Hour at The Roaming Radish where we enjoyed the tastiest of tapas with local wine.  Fantastic combination!

Sketched the massive clothing and shoe racks at Community Thrift from above on the second floor.

Sherryl especially loved Community Thrift's artificial cactus.

Toys, Toys, Toys

Julie says:

"It was so fun sketching the abundance of great toys at Community Thrift, I could not pick just one. (Well actually one very special shaggy dog made it home to my dear friend Donna.)"

File under 'B' for Bodacious

File under 'B' for big, burly, bodacious blob of a bear.

Sold! I took this cool candle holder home with me!

Really struggled with this big shaggy bear sitting atop a metal file cabinet at Community Thrift. When I got done, you could barely tell he was a bear. And you'd have no clue he was actually white! I wisely snagged the elephant candle holder before Sherryl arrived. She has a knack for zeroing in the coolest kitsch in the store. (Remember Hula Fish?) Sketched it, bought it.

Books!

This shelf has it all!
I love books and feel deprived if I don't have one being read or waiting in the wings, so this week I sketched one of the book shelves at Community Thrift.  The 911 book was a reminder that 10 years have passed since this horrible event.  Travel, Garden, Art and Christmas were some of the books that I sketched.  Take a look next time you are there!

Sketching Time . . . .

. . . . at the Thrift Store in Freeland.  Dropped some things off, bought some others, then sat upstairs in the corner with "my" clocks.  Glad they were still all there on the wall, marking time, waiting to be sketched.

Hundreds of Cups at the Community Thrift

Need a cup for tea or coffee? Tea would have been perfect while sketching the huge supply of cups waiting for buyers at the Thrift store today. I couldn't resist painting the variety of shapes and colors of these cups and doing a quick sketch of the sweet tea cup with cherries on it.

Books, Books, Books at Community Thrift

Julie Pittis sketched the well stocked bookshelves at Community Thrift in Freeland when we met there a couple of months ago. We searched for the art books, but they were all sold out.

A fabulous sketch at CommunityThrift from our newest member, Judi Nyerges-Beaudoin. Wow. Now that's a Christmas card.

Christmas Kitsch at Community Thrift

Community Thrift was a great sketching venue. So much great kitsch to draw and lots comfy chairs and sofas to sit on. And the staff loved having us there. We'll definitely be going back!

Not too pleased with this sketch, which I spent over an hour on. I kept trying to make it work by adding more and more darks and line work, but it never quite came together. Clearly, the area between the chests and the Santa is the problem area. I'd love to hear suggestions on what I should have done differently to make this more successful.
