Sketching at the Freeland Library

It certainly felt good to sit and sketch again after such a long hiatus. I have missed it! And I have missed seeing all my dear Whidbey Island Sketcher friends!

Bayview Farm and Garden

l admit St. Francis looks a little goofy here. Maybe it was just because I was sitting outside in the sunshine with my coffee smelling the floral fragrances that were wafting all about while the birds were tweeting and diving in for suet from the feeder. Maybe it was me who felt a little goofy and projected it onto my sketch. It was a gorgeous day at Bayview Farm and Garden. Of course the usual WISkers were scattered about both inside and out making an already lovely day even better.

Gloria wears Lovie

Gloria Ferry-Brennan in concert at the UUCWI last Friday evening wearing a Brenda Lovie gown. When Natalie found out I had tickets, she asked me to try to get a sketch of the dress that she might be able to use in her article about Brenda in Whidbey Life Magazine. As if I needed a reason to sketch Gloria or Brenda Lovie's breathtaking creations. Gloria will be wearing Brenda's latest creation when she performs with the Seattle Symphony on Valentine's day. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have Gloria model these dresses for a sketching or figure drawing session?

More cheer from Good Cheer, some odd and quirky antiques. We even had a great selection of chairs to sit in while we painted.  Some of us spent more time buying than sketching. A great place to hang out!

Live & Learn at Good Cheer 2

It's always fun sketching at Good Cheer. In looking about for a subject I thought, oh what fun it'd be to sketch some shoes. The boots were colorful and looked simple enough. Well, rain boots are not so easy. They're clunky but subtle in shape. I messed it up big time, brought it home and tried fixing the sketch with some gouache. It's okay. I learned to let well enough alone. So keep at it!

Thrift Shop Girls

Sketched at Good Cheer Two Thrift Store yesterday. Tons of fun things to sketch and staff was very welcoming. I drew a couple of the girls from very sweet Native American doll collection. I cracked myself up with this one. I call it: "Pocohantas and Bride of Chuckie". Bride of Chuckie was really not that cranky looking in reality, only in my sketch.  The corners of the mouth make all the difference, eh?
