Music from India at Music for the Eyes

Kris and I enjoyed a wonderful evening of Indian music and sketching at Music for the Eyes in Langley last night, with Anjali Joshi on santoor and Ravi Albright on tabla drums.

Anjali Joshi is well known in the Seattle area as a solo Santoor artist and as an accompanist on harmonium to Indian vocal and tabla artists. Ravi Albright, who  accompanied her on the tabla drums, has studied with the legendary Pandit Anindo Chatterjee of Calcutta.

Originating in Persia, the santoor is an ancient instrument of India, with 100 strings played with curve mallets. It was played with folk music of Kashmir as well as by Sufi mystics.

  1. A little Nabi influence? You captured Angali's likeness perfectly. And I love the rich colors and patterns. These are lovely!
