I will keep practicing and hope to get much better at sketching cats, now that I have some. Like drawing cowboy hats on a moving target, it's harder than it looks.

Cat Shapes
My new cats cuddle up into the most gorgeous connected shapes and formations, always touching. Brother and sister, these two have been snuggling since they were in the womb, I guess. They are so adorable when they do this, I often call to my husband to come and look at what they're doing now. He pretends indifference.

Kalakala on New Year's Day
I love the diversity of clientele and especially the youth vibe at Kalakala. Not to mention the warm molten chocolate cake with ice cream and caramel sauce. 2015 is getting off to a great start.
Sea Float Scramble
A wonderful morning sketching at the Sea Float Scramble. What a perfect place-based event. Went to Kalakala to try sipping vinegar next and to visit with sketchers. Both a delight.
Magic Mushroom Buddy Art
You never know what you'll get with Buddy Art. The polka-dotted Magic Mushrooms in Cynthia's holiday decor may have triggered some acid flashbacks among the buddies on Friday. This is an example of what can happen when you combine polka dots, mushrooms, Christmas, wine, paint and sketchers.
Sea Float Scramble
Yesterday was the Third Annual Seafloat Scramble. Callahan's Firehouse created and donated 300 beautiful hand blown sea floats and had volunteers hide them "in plain view" at Langley's Seawall Park, as well as in a smaller park for the younger youngsters. We had a half dozen intrepid sketchers capturing the fun of the morning, including two relative newbies from further up the island. We Sketchers were allowed in amongst the nests and gently placed baubles whilst the public waited excitedly behind the lines for the 11 a.m. bell. Then, a mad dash for the sea floats! What a great time. What great energy. Thank you, Callahan, for your generosity. Afterwards, we Sketchers cozied over fresh French pressed java at Kalakala, sharing sketching secrets.

Starting the New Year at Cynthia's
Happy New Year Everyone! We sure started the New Year, the Year of the Sheep, with a bang at Cynthia's. I didn't count noses, but the place was filled to the brim with very happy sketchers. Of course Cynthia delighted us with every nook and cranny of her lovely home packed with Christmas cheer and treasures. I found myself drawn to the windows looking out on the gray and blue bay, while inside was filled with the warmth of reds and golds. I also could not resist the darling still life that Judi Nyerges set up on a windowsill honoring the coming Year of the Sheep. I look forward to 2015 with WISk. I wonder where our wandering pens will take us this year!!

The Year of the Lamb/Sheep/Ram (take your pick)
The first Whidbey Island Sketchers meet-up of the new year, at Cynthia's beautifully decorated home. The Gnat brought a lambie to sketch, to welcome in the year of the lamb. So here are some red berries, spotted fairy mushrooms and two little mini Baas, one in a sheepskin coat.
It just isn't Christmas till we visit Cynthia!
Cynthia knows how to make Christmas special. Her home is a Winter Wonderland with scenes everywhere of beautiful reds and blues, many Santa, quilts and pillows, candlesticks, tablecloths. It may sound like a lot, but her house can handle all these items and every year it is more beautiful than the year before. Thank you for sharing your home with a lot of sketching, eating, talking women. We love it!
