Zen space

We were so fortunate to have a mild February day so that we could sketch outside in the gardens of another lovely home on Whidbey Island. The house is tucked in between giant trees and a beautiful water view.  A small stream next to the house makes peaceful gurgling sounds and begs you to cross the bridge and sit still. When I closed my eyes to listen better, the magic intensified.

Inside, as I warmed by the fire, there were equally interesting things to see. The owners say they found perfect places for all of the treasures they have collected over 40 years together.

Happy and Charming!

We sketched at a wonderful private home today with original art EVERYWHERE. The biggest challenge was focusing in one direction since there was so much to enjoy!

Richard La Londe's glass studio

Richard's studio was warm and dry which was especially appreciated on rainy day. He got us all set up with cookies, coffee and some great Blues music. After sketching for a while, we went on a tour of his glass collection. There are so many artists approaching glass with innovative techniques and styles. Next he pulled a piece out of the kiln and set in in the window for the sun to sparkle through. Warm glass felt quite cozy.

Richard LaLonde Fused Glass Studio

2.5.16
Who knew there was so much detail in a mandala?!
How do you get all this fused on glass?  Maybe he'll show us.

Richard was a generous host touring us through his wonderful
studio, blowing our imaginations wide open with his
incredible work, all served up with coffee, cookies,
and blues music!
